MetroMark ("the Service") is an experimental, in-development transit exploration tracker built as a hobby project ("we", "our", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

MetroMark lets you explore public transit networks, focus individual routes, track which stations you have visited, and see estimated service frequency. Route and stop data is provided by third parties (see Section 5) and may be incomplete, delayed, or out of date. The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial exploration.

2. Accounts

An account is optional. To create one you provide an email address, a password, and optionally a display name. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity under your account. You may delete your progress at any time; to delete the account itself, contact us (Section 10).

3. Acceptable Use

• Do not use the Service to collect data at scale, scrape our endpoints, or probe for vulnerabilities.
• Do not attempt to access another user's account or data.
• Do not submit false issue reports or misuse the "report an issue" tool.
• Do not store sensitive personal data (health, financial, government identifiers) in the Service.

4. Your Content

You retain ownership of content you submit, such as issue reports and reviews. You grant us a limited license to store and display that content so the Service can function. Where you mark stations as visited, that progress is stored to your account and shown back to you.

5. Third-Party Data & Attribution

MetroMark does not own the underlying transit data. Route and stop information is sourced from Transitland and is subject to their terms and the terms of the transit operators and open data licenses that feed it. Basemap imagery and labels are provided by CARTO and contain © OpenStreetMap contributors. Map rendering uses the open-source MapLibre GL and PMTiles libraries.

6. Open-Source License

The MetroMark source code is released under the GNU General Public License v3. That license governs your use of the software. It does not grant you any rights in the third-party transit, map, or basemap data described in Section 5 beyond what those providers allow, and it does not govern your use of the hosted Service itself.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Transit schedules and route geometry change frequently; data you see may be stale or incorrect. Do not rely on the Service for navigation, trip planning, or any safety-critical purpose.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.

9. Changes, Suspension, and Termination

This is a hobby project. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We may terminate or restrict accounts that violate these Terms. These Terms may be updated; the "Last updated" date above will change, and continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States. If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms reduces your mandatory consumer rights under local law.
